Mealtime Safety Training for NJ Disability Support Staff Is October 8

Mealtime can be an enjoyable and social part of the day, but for some people with disabilities it also requires careful attention to safety.

New Jersey DDD is offering two choking-prevention trainings on October 8, 2026: 'Diet Textures' from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and 'Mealtime Safety and Supervision' from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

These topics are especially important for staff who support someone with swallowing difficulties, modified diets, or an elevated choking risk.

Following an individual’s documented plan, using the correct food texture, maintaining appropriate supervision, and knowing when to seek help can all be essential parts of safe support.

Friendly Connections encourages staff to treat health and safety training as a practical part of providing respectful, person-centered care.
